ICF Toronto EDI in Action
The ICF Toronto Board has partnered with the University of Western Ontario (UWW) to understand our progress towards creating greater equity, diversity, and inclusion within our membership.
The first step in the process was to conduct a series of focus groups with chapter leadership (past and present). Key findings from the process are:
- There is a need for a deeper understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion and how it is being experienced at ICF Toronto.
- Board members and associates need to improve their quality and level of communication both within the Board, and between the Board and the membership.
- The membership may not see the connection between what the Board is saying and their actions regarding equity, diversity and inclusion.
- The Board needs stable leadership, especially in the EDI portfolio.
The research team presented to the Board at the end of August, and we are currently reviewing their recommendations which include:
- Develop collective EDI-related goals to improve understanding of desired end state, and align meaningful contributions
- Collect membership data to make informed decisions on how to serve our members, and tailor EDI initiatives which demonstrate commitment and avoid unintended consequences
- Communicate with greater clarity and transparency
- Activate shared leadership with increased cooperation and coordination
